Airstream alternative: Introducing Aviator by Forest River

For a long time, the Airstream travel trailer has had virtually no competition. There is nothing else like it on the market.

Until now.

Forest River recently introduced the Aviator - and we think it's better than an Airstream.

The judges at RV Business magazine think it's pretty special too - awarding it Best of Show at the 49th Annual National RV Trade Show.

For one thing, it has a slideout - something Airstream trailers don't have.

For another, it's far more colorful! Full body paint with clearcoat protection on gel-coated fiberglass sets this travel trailer apart from anything else on the market. And construction is revolutionary: Contoured laminated sidewalls that are 5 to 6 inches thick at their widest point, are joined to a one-piece laminated composite floor and a one-piece fiberglass roof with aluminum truss rafters.

On the inside, Aviator appointments are classically styled, yet state of the art. There is virtually no wood in the Aviator product. All Celtec cabinetry and trim are made of durable composite material, built to last a lifetime. Electronics are all Sony, including the AM/FM/CD/DVD/Blu-ray player.

Here is the galley of the Aviator Wright Flyer floorplan. Note the curved cabinet fronts, solid surface countertop with integrated sink, high-rise faucet with sprayer, residential size microwave oven, and large pull-out pantry.

The spacious dinette is situated in the nose of the Aviator Wright Flyer, and can convert into a large bed. Large tinted windows up front keep out the heat and UV rays while allowing you to enjoy the view from inside the trailer.

The bath in the Aviator Wright Flyer is elegant, yet functional. The shower features a one-piece insert, glass enclosure, and skylight.

In the Wright Flyer floorplan, the bedroom is situated in the rear of the trailer. A walkaround queen bed is flanked by large tinted windows, allowing you to awaken to a morning view.

On the exterior, the Aviator Wright Flyer includes an enclosed entertainment center. All electronic components of the Aviator product can be controlled with the optional Sony tablet, or some smartphones. The tablet option includes a 16GB SD card, and a wireless router to serve the camper.

Up front, all floorplans feature an enclosed compartment for batteries and LP tanks, to ensure the aerodynamics of the Aviator travel trailer. A powered tongue jack is included for ease of setup. The nose of the Aviator is treated with Armorcoat protection, to prevent chipping and damage.

Each Aviator includes the MaxxAir vent fan to draw fresh air through the trailer at the flick of a switch.

The Aviator's enclosed termination valve system puts all the controls in one place, and minimizes the need to bend over by being located in the sidewall of the travel trailer.

In the Aviator Electra floorplan, the bed is situated in the nose of the camper ... let's just say it's a room with a view!

A luxurious vanity is located at the foot of the bed in the Electra floorplan, and it includes a Sony flat-screen TV.

The galley in the Aviator Electra is nicely appointed, with a full size microwave oven, solid-surface countertops with integrated sink, and high-rise faucet with sprayer.

Across from the refrigerator in the Electra floorplan is this spacious pull-out pantry.

The bathroom in the Aviator Electra is located at the rear of the floorplan.
